Diablo Cody on Jennifer’s Body

The Vomit shot out of Megan Fox like water from a geyser. A ghastly movie concoction that looked like a mix of used motor oil, lawn clippings and the slag at the bottom of a Souplantation trash bin, the black puke sprayed actors Amanda Seyfried and Johnny Simmons, whose characters were doing their best to fight off a cannibalistic fiend, an otherwise popular cheerleader named Jennifer Check.

It was among the more gothic scenes in Jennifer’s Body, a closing battle with fewer rules than Ultimate Fighting, pitting Jennifer (Transformer’s Fox) against her longtime friend Needy Lesnicky (Seyfried, of Mamma Mia!) and her relatively wimpy boyfriend Chip Dove (Evan Almighty’s Simmons). The movie’s swimming pool location, inside a derelict juvenile hall slated to become a hospital for British Columbia’s criminally insane, was forbidding in its own right. The flotsam in the pool’s filthy water — leaves, a wheelchair, beer cans — made the entire setting for the film stomach-turning, especially since the young actors had to swim in it.

Amanda Seyfried Sparks to John

Amanda Seyfried will follow Mamma Mia! with a starring gig in Dear John, the Lasse Hallstrom-directed adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks bestseller.

Seyfried joins Channing Tatum in the pic and will play a young woman who meets and falls in love with a soldier while he’s on leave.

Jamie Linden wrote the script.

Relativity is fully financing the film, which begins shooting Oct. 13 in South Carolina. Screen Gems will distribute domestically.

Relativity’s Ryan Kavanaugh will produce with Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, the Temple Hill partner who developed the film under their New Line deal and then enlisted Relativity when that distributor was absorbed by Warner Bros. Relativity’s Tucker Tooley will be executive producer.

Jennifer’s Body Advance Review

Jennifer’s Body Advance Review

Over at JoBlo.com you can check out the first advance screening review of Jennifer’s Body… And it ain’t good. See the site to read the full review. Here’s an excerpt concerning Amanda’s performance:

The film’s performances are pretty decent. Seyfried does as good as one could to hold up the film even though it’s this bad. Megan wasn’t horrifyingly bad but neither was she good. There was a scene where it’s a real big close up of her kissing another chick (YES!!!!). The men in the audience hooted and cheered even though it was completely random and the director put it in as a a kind of apology for not giving up the real goods (no Megan Fox boobage).

Honestly, who cares if the reviews are bad. I personally LOVED Juno and the reviewer apparently didn’t. Jennifer’s Body is my most awaited film of the moment and I’m sure it’ll make me happy, even if it doesn’t please the Juno hating crowd and others who simply don’t get the awesomeness of Diablo Cody.

Mamma Mia! is a Box Office Hit

Holy Cash Cow, Batman! Christmas came early for Warner Brothers this year, and it looks like it won’t matter if they have another hit until at least 2012. Chris Nolan’s sequel to Batman Begins has smashed every record in sight, hitting with a $155 million debut and taking that top spot on the weekend charts for what could be weeks to come. After just three days in release, The Dark Knight is already shaping up to be the biggest movie event of the year.

Opening in second place was the musical Mamma Mia!, which nabbed a nice little take of $27.6 million. That’s no where near the behemoth earnings of The Dark Knight, but it is the biggest opening in history for a musical, besting last year’s Hairspray by a little more than a million dollars.

Big congratulations to Amanda Seyfried and the cast & crew behind Mamma Mia! for the success! Furthermore, the top 5 movies at the box office are listed below.

  1. The Dark Knight - $155 million
  2. Mamma Mia! - $27.6 million
  3. Hancock - $14 million
  4. Journey to the Center of the Earth - $11.9 million
  5. Hellboy II: The Golden Army - $10 million
