Screen Gems’ new drama Dear John, starring Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried, took the industry by surprise and kept James Cameron’s Avatar from topping the domestic box office for an eighth straight time. Directed by Lasse Hallstrom and based on the Nicholas Sparks novel, Dear John earned an estimated $32.4 million from 2,969 theaters, a strong average of $10,913 per theater. The film was made for about $25 million and the studio said its audiences were 84% female and two-thirds were under the age of 21. Screen Gems had hoped for an opening of about $20 million for the movie, which set a new Super Bowl weekend record, surpassing 2008′s Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour ($31.1 million).
Here is a big list of more Dear John stuff before I lose track with so much coming in daily.

Check out this really cute interview with Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried for AOL. She reveals her all time favorite films is Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet (1996), her dream musical is Les Misérables and Chan sums her up in 3 (or so) words. Give it a look after the jump!
The lushly romantic Dear John hasn’t even opened yet, but that passionate kiss in the rain between Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum is already generating heat on the Internet.
There are times when the intensity of their scenes together in this film adaptation of author Nicholas Sparks’ bestselling novel seems more than real. But although the web may be working itself into something of a frenzy over these moments, don’t assume there was anything actually happening between the two stars during filming in South Carolina.
In the upcoming Dear John, Amanda Seyfried’s heart is in more than the letters she writes to her boyfriend. singer-songwriter. Amanda wrote and sings on a track on the soundtrack. You might recall shots of her playing the guitar in the trailer.
Seyfried’s “Little House,” a wistful love song, will be included on the Dear Johnsoundtrack, but you can hear it for the first time on E! Online.
On a particularly nasty, nearly rainy, ever-windy Sunday night, the red carpet that had been placed at the entrance of the Hippodrome for the premiere of the Lowcountry-shot film Dear John was empty. Instead, Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried were busy meeting fans far away from the carpet. They almost didn’t make it back.
Girls were practically tearing their hair out of their heads for an opportunity to take a picture with Tatum (G.I. Joe, Step Up) and Seyfried (Mamma Mia!, Big Love). Tatum wore “just Gucci” while Seyfried was super sweet (and tiny) in a red Stella McCartney dress and stacked silver pumps, which she promptly changed out of after posing for the press. Both talked of loving Charleston (duh) and buying houses here (insert excited squeal here), and Seyfried casually mentioned she had visited her future house and neighbor (whom she loves) already that day. “Charleston and St. Louis are two of the best places in the world,” she gushed.
Finally found one image of Amanda Seyfried at the Charleston, SC premiere. I wish more would turn up because she looks so pretty in the red dress.
The stars walked the red carpet past hundreds of screaming fans, signing autographs and posing for photos. Seyfried appeared in a red strapless Stella McCartney dress and Brian Atwood pumps.
The star-studded event was a fundraiser for Carolina Autism, a local nonprofit that provides services to children and adults with autism. Ticket holders received a private screening of the film and the opportunity to mingle with the actors at a party afterward at the S.C. Aquarium. The premiere was open to the public but tickets costed $250. However 100% of the proceeds went to the charity.
“It’s real, as real as it can be without being an actual true story,” she said. “How could you not fall in love with these characters? The story of a love that is so pure and endearing. – Amanda Seyfried
Seyfried, who volunteers with nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles, including Autism Speaks, said she was happy and honored to be a part of the local fundraiser.
