Amanda Seyfried to Star in ‘the Great Gatsby’?

Rumors are now flying around that Amanda, along with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Macguire, will be starring in The Great Gatsby remake. Please consider this as just a rumor until we get confirmation.

We haven’t heard much about the upcoming adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s beloved classic, The Great Gatsby. In fact, we haven’t heard anything about the project since we reported on the news that director Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge) had bought the rights to the novel in 2008. Now, Production Weekly has announced some exciting casting rumors via their twitter feed. The rumors are that Leonardo DiCaprio is up for the role of Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire for Nick Carraway, and Amanda Seyfried for Daisy Buchanan. There is no mention of Luhrmann directing, but I’m going to assume that he still owns the rights and will be helming the film.

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel continues to be mandatory school reading (I read it in 8th grade) for a good reason. The book’s tragic story of two wealthy aristocrats (DiCaprio and Seyfried), their next door neighbor (Maguire), and their doomed love affair during the early 1920s continues to be poignant more than 80 years later after it’s first publication in 1925. It’s easy to see why Luhrmann would be interested in adapting the story for a modern generation that continues to be fascinated by fame and wealth.. The trio of actors are, in my opinion, very solid choices and I look forward to seeing how Luhrmann will choose to tackle the novel.

News in Amanda land has been slow unfortunately, but I did find this interesting article about who will play Amanda’s dad in an upcoming film with Justin Timberlake. Check it out:

Variety reports this morning that everyone’s least favorite Mad Men man-child, Pete Campbell – actor Vincent Kartheiser, the world’s most unlikely hipster – has joined the cast of a Justin Timberlake/Amanda Seyfried thriller set in world where no one ages past 25.

Kartheiser is set to play Seyfried’s father (the grown version of Peggy and Pete’s lovechild?), which just seems wrong considering he’s only six years her senior in real life.

Cillian Murphy Could Join Justin Timberlake And Amandy Seyfried In ‘I’m.mortal’

I’m.mortal” just keeps getting better. First it was revealed that the movie would mark director Andrew Niccol’s return to sci-fi. Then Amanda Seyfried joined the cast, followed by Justin Timberlake (who is still in negotiations). Now, “Inception” actor Cillian Murphy is in “final negotiations” to join the cast as well, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The story is set in a future where the aging gene has been discovered and switched off. To prevent overpopulation, people now spend time the way we do money, on luxuries and necessities. Timberlake (if cast) will play a poor man who suddenly ends up with a fortune in time to spend. This leads to him becoming the target of a murder investigation; while on the run, he kidnaps a wealthy, young heiress (Seyfried). Murphy is up for a role playing an officer of the Timekeepers, which sounds like some sort of law enforcement body. Between Niccol and the cast that’s firming up, “I’m.mortal” is sounding like it’s going to be a good time.

Justin Timberlake Asked To Star Opposite Amanda Seyfried In ‘I’m.mortal’

Just the other week we found out Amanda Seyfried secured the prime female role in I’m.mortal, a girl living in a future world in which aging stops at 25. Time has taken the place of cash, so the rich are immortal while the rest just need to do whatever it takes to survive. Timberlake’s role would be that of a ghetto-dweller who’s wrongly accused of killing a rich man for his time. He goes on the run from the “time keepers” and opts to take a hostage with him, Seyfried’s character.

Minus the unnecessary punctuation mark in the middle of the film’s title, I’m loving everything about this project. There’s something very Gattaca-esque about the concept and considering Andrew Niccol is responsible for the I’m.mortal script and will be the man behind the lens, we should be in good shape. As for the stars, Seyfried has run into her fair share of poor material, namely Letters to Juliet and Dear John, but it’s likely this one will be on the darker side and Chloe and Jennifer’s Body certainly prove she can handle that.

Most don’t really look at Timberlake and think he’s a serious actor, but The Social Network seems to have the power to change all of that. He was also pretty good in 2006′s Alpha Dog. As for The Love Guru, let’s just pretend that never happened. Assuming Timberlake accepts the offer, I’d like to still have high hopes for I’m.mortal.

Amanda Seyfried wants to become immortal. The actress is set to topline New Regency’s sci-fi action thriller, “I’m.mortal,” from writer-director Andrew Niccol. Twentieth Century Fox will distribute the film, also described as an action love story.

I’m.mortal” revolves around a society in which aging stops at the age of 25–meaning that every role in “mortal” will be played by actors in their mid-20s.

New Regency picked up the high-priority project this spring. Niccol is expected to begin lensing this year. Eric Newman and Marc Abraham are producing via their Strike Entertainment. Strike’s Kristel Laiblin is exec producing.

In “I’m.mortal,” time has become the currency. Once you turn 25 and your aging gene turns off, you must buy and bank time. If you are rich enough, you can live forever. But if you run out of time, you are engineered to die automatically.

When a rebel from the ghetto is falsely accused of murdering a wealthy man for his time, he is forced to go on the run with a beautiful, rich hostage (Seyfried). Together, this duo rages against the system, living minute to minute. They discover that love is more powerful than all the time in the world.

Seyfried (“Mamma Mia!“) stars in Warner Bros.’ upcoming “Red Riding Hood,” from director Catherine Hardwicke. She was last in theaters with “Letters to Juliet” and “Dear John.”

Lead male hasn’t yet been cast.

Amanda Seyfried is intent on having a career similar to two-time Oscar winning actress Meryl Streep.

Amanda Seyfried dreams of having Meryl Streep’s career.

The ‘Dear John‘ actress – who made her big screen debut in cult Lindsay Lohan movie ‘Mean Girls‘ – claims she would like to tread a career path similar to multi-Oscar winning actress Meryl, although admits so would many others in her profession.

She said: “I would like to be one of those actresses who can do anything. I would like to be like Meryl Streep some day, but then I don’t know many people in this business who don’t have that goal.”

Discussing her upcoming appearance as the titular character in Catherine Hardwicke’s big screen adaptation of ‘Red Riding Hood‘, Amanda reveals it will be different from what many expect.

She told Total Film magazine: “Catherine has a very vivid, clear idea, a beautiful idea of what she wants us to be.

“Very gothic, very dark and unlike ‘Twilight’.”

Amanda will star alongside Gary Oldman, Julie Christie and Lukas Haas, which is due for release in April 2011.
